TONGUES OF FIRE (2017)

"And divided tongues as of fire appeared to them and rested on each one of them."

Tongues of Fire Album Back

“When the day of Pentecost arrived, they were all together in one place. And suddenly there came from heaven a sound like a mighty rushing wind, and it filled the entire house where they were sitting. And divided tongues as of fire appeared to them and rested on each one of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit gave them utterance” (Acts 2:1-4). “Tongues of Fire” is Adam’s Road’s ninth album. The Holy Spirit, like a fire, has indwelled the Church since its beginnings at Pentecost in the first century. Christians are called to be a light to the world. We are like candles, each with a flame, spreading the Gospel to the world. The album’s title track, Tongues of Fire, communicates such a message.

The album cover features a lit candle that also resembles the Arabic letter for "N"—a symbol that Islamic extremists use to mark the homes and businesses of Christians as a sign of contempt. This symbol of ISIS hate has become a rallying cry for Christians. We feature the symbol on this album in remembrance of our persecuted brothers and sisters in Christ: “Remember those who are in prison, as though in prison with them, and those who are mistreated, since you also are in the body” (Hebrews 13:3). In spreading and featuring the light of the Gospel to the world, there will be persecution and opposition. We pray for strength and boldness as the Church—filled with the Holy Spirit—fulfills the Great Commission from our Lord Jesus and looks forward to His Return.

An exciting new feature for “Tongues of Fire” is the incorporation of Lila LeBaron’s vocals into this entire project. Lila joined Adam’s Road in 2015 and was lightly featured throughout Adam’s Road’s previous album: though she sang its title track, Immeasurable. This time around she is fully utilized throughout, adding another dimension of expression, skill, and range for the group in its efforts to communicate God’s Word through song.

The album expresses Christ as the Son of Suffering, Passover Lamb, and the Light of the World. The song Overcome is dedicated to the persecuted Church, which is in tribulation and dying for Jesus. We proclaim, “Take heart! Jesus has overcome the world.” Jesus is Enough: His grace is sufficient. We trust in Him—not ourselves—boasting in our weakness, resting in His strength, we cast our cares on the cross and are healed and filled with peace.

Jesus himself is our peace. And no one comes to the Father except through the Son. Way Truth and Life is an upbeat song highlighting the cross, blood, and resurrection of Jesus. Guest cellist Norma Huff plays on this song and throughout the album. Former professor of cello at Stetson University, David Bjella’s talents are also featured throughout the album.

Jarian Felton, former Worship Pastor at FBC Winter Garden, and his wife, Shawna, team up on Son of Suffering, blessing us with a rich and powerful display of vocals that exalt our Lord as the Suffering Servant—capturing the emotion of His suffering and majesty of His love. Libby Chippeaux, a talented professional violinist, skillfully plays the string melodies in this orchestral ballade. She is the featured violinist for this album project.

From hymn-like acoustic ballads to organ, bass, and drum-driven songs, this album features a variety of styles. Whether orchestral, acoustic, “rockous”, or tame in style, the truth of God’s Word is shared. Featured on Light of the World is Charlie Dechant, saxophonist with the multi-platinum selling recording artists Hall & Oates. Other guest artists include Katie Warren, former Adam's Road band member Jay Graham, Pastor Dave Gabel, Faith Casteel, and Dominick Shaw, a talented vocalist who has been featured on songs in the past, such as You Have A Home, The Church, and As A Child. We thank God for the gracious support of this talented crew.
